I started recording music on a Tascam Portastudio 4-Track to cassettes at age 14. Pursuing my passion led me to study Recording Industry Management at Middle Tennessee State University and Recording Arts at Flashpoint Chicago Media Arts College. After finishing school, I became an Assistant Engineer at Chicago's legendary Gravity Studios, working under the mentorship of Doug McBride. Simultaneously working at two of Chicago's premier venues, Lincoln Hall & Schubas, I ran monitor mixes and learned the craft of live sound under the mentorship of Paul Massaro, Chris Gelin and Martin Stebbing. In 2014, I founded Smooth River Studio and began freelancing full time. My career highlights include recording major label artists such as Lynval Golding, Dan Hubbard, as well as independet projects with Mozey, and Redlight Jazz, & many others. I've worked on Audio crews for Lollapalooza and Pitchfork, beed Front of House Sound Engineer at SXSW and Something Good Fest, & also have experience with commercial post production audio editing for corporate clients including H-E-B

“Joe did a fabulous job with my recording. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He was on time, communicated very well and was very professional. He is very talented in recording and mixing.”
